Cabezas de San Juan

Cabezas de San Juan in Fajardo is a natural reserve maintained by Para la Naturaleza. It has different areas from A bioluminescent lagoon, mangroves, coral reefs, dry forests, sandy and rocky beaches set between headlands, visit all these ecosystems in one place. The place also has a red lagoon, the color given by the algae and bacteria, it has a salt producing lagoon, animals and the lighthouse. When you get here they have plenty of parking, head to the information house where there is a gift shop, chairs and you can see the ocean. Before getting here go to http://reservaciones.paralanaturaleza.org/index.jsf and buy tickets for your desired tour with time, tickets are limited and sell fast. The tour guide will take you in a trolley through all of the reverse, the last stop is the lighthouse, the tallest one of them all, beautiful view. here there will be an exhibition and yo ucan see bioluminescent creatures. I suggest you go to the 10 am tour to avoid the sun, where tennis shoes, take water and a hat. The tour is both educational and fun, for all ages. we encountered some issues at first because a tire exploded but they quickly solved the issue. the information house has bathrooms, snacks, water, etc. you’ll see different types of beaches from the usual sandy ones, to rocky, filled with algae and corals, etc. there are even mangle that help produce salt (touch the leaves and have a taste!). Its good to go between the hours of 8-10am and 2-4pm so you can avoid the sun. the lighthouse is one of the highest on the island and has been historically restored to its original floor plan. the reservations can be made for the tour or for the volunteering activities. the tickets are $12 per person and can be changed with prior notification. enjoy the natural reserve and keep it clean!
